EEC is moving forward. This is evident from the coordination and management of several basic infrastructures including high speed train, U-Tapao Airport and Aviation Metropolis project, sea port development, road transportation and dual rail system. The latest progress is the infrastructure for 5G telecommunication which has already covered 80% of the area.

Setting up a city structure to support broadband internet is essential, especially in the EEC which is intended to become Thailand’s economic city. Preparation of 5G readiness will enable all agencies to be able to communicate instantly, achieving a smooth transition between work and personal life, and contribute to other developments such as smart community (Smart City, Digital Hospital, Industry 4.0), the growth of manufacturing sector, new business creations from 5G technology (e-commerce, e-medicine, etc.), cloud data storage, as well as robotics and AI. As of February 2021, more than 80% of 5G internet towers have been installed in the EEC area. Moreover, there is an initiative for companies investing in digital infrastructure in the EEC to also invest in human resource development for sustainable future. It is expected that within 3 years, the project will be able to train 115,282 personnel with expertise in robotics and automation, and digitalization to the industrial sector.
